Why in-home therapy?
Providing services in your home ensures that your child feels comfortable and safe. This will allow for easy rapport building and the most progress.
What do your sessions look like?
This depends on the child, their strengths and needs, and their interests. A lot of times it looks like play! Children learn new concepts more quickly when having fun versus through drill type repetition. We accept all forms of play here at The Communication Classroom. If a child is having fun, that works for us. At the high school level, it may look like working on homework, watching videos to discuss, your child teaching me something new, or just a conversation.
Do you accept insurance?
At this time, we do not accept insurance. We can, however, provide you with documentation to submit to your insurance for reimbursement.
What suburbs do you service?
We currently provide in-home speech therapy in Bartlett, Illinois and surrounding suburbs within approximately 25 minutes of travel. Suburbs we serve include:
Bartlett, Wheaton, Streamwood, Hanover Park, Glendale Heights, Bloomingdale, South Elgin, West Chicago, Wayne, Winfield, Roselle, and South Schaumburg.
If you're unsure whether you're within our service area, feel free to contact us — we're happy to check your location!
Do your work on social skills?
We will absolutely help an individual develop communication skills for social interactions. However, we do this a bit differently than traditional speech therapy. We embrace social and communicative differences and challenge clients to set their own social goals. We utilize self-reflection to determine if communication and interactions were effective and meaningful, encourage self-advocacy, and will help your child develop problem-solving skills for social interactions. We will NOT force eye contact, teach expected vs. unexpected behaviors, work on non-preferred topics, or other areas that force neurodivergent masking.
Can I participate in sessions?
For AAC and Gestalt Language Processing sessions, we welcome family participation. We do leave family participation up to the client when addressing complex language, pragmatic language, and executive functioning (this allows trust, comfort, increased focus, and natural flow of conversation for some of our high school clients). Parents always reserve the right to information regarding the success of the session though.
Will you collaborate with my child's school team?
Absolutely! Something I love about being an SLP is collaborating with professionals and families. We want your student to grow and believe a whole team approach is best to achieve that.
